Place: Finnish Craft Museum, Kauppakatu 25, 40100 Jyväskylä
Fri 17.00 - 20.00
Sat 11.00 - 18.00
Sun 11.00 - 18.00
Shoe making combines sewing and technical work. In this course, you’ll learn the basics of the shoe-making process and different materials. Choose from the following styles to make: low-cut ankle boots, high-cut ankle boots, low-cut walking shoes, or high-cut ankle boots with a zipper. You can choose your preferred shoe tree from a few options. Shoe tree sizes range from 35 to 45, with wide and narrow options available.
Bring scissors, pens, a ruler, and the fabric you want to use to make your shoes. You can also bring your own sewing machine if you prefer to sew using a machine you’re already familiar with. Any basic fabric works well, such as cotton, linen, polyester, viscose, panama, tapestry, or blends of these. It’s best not to choose fabric that’s too thin.
Approximate fabric requirements:
Low-cut ankle boots: 70 cm x 50 cm
Ankle boots: 80 cm x 50 cm
High-top ankle boots: 100 cm x 50 cm
High-top ankle boots with zipper: 100 cm x 50 cm
The instructor will provide all the materials and tools needed for the course. You will receive an information letter from the instructor before the course begins.
The material fee of €45–55 is to be paid to the instructor on the first day of the course. In addition, a registration fee of €100 is payable upon registration.
If you are sensitive to scents or chemicals, please note that strong contact adhesive will be used during the course.
The workshop will be led by shoemaker and footwear designer Nelli Nurmi
